After attending the 1st week of classes, I informed my professors that I would not be available the following week (week 2), and split for the mountains (the Rocky Mountains that is). Week two is typically a light week with little work, and even fewer tests and quizzes, so I was confident there would not be too much trouble… I only had to submit 2 assignments while in Colorado.
My family and I returned to Vail, CO for the 1st time in about 6 years. It’s spring time, so the conditions at the base of the mountain were slightly shotty. Luckily the elevation of Vail Mountain leaves its peaks snow covered, and in good condition for skiing. It snowed a few nights during our stay making for some pleasing powder conditions up top. Blue Sky Basin, Vail’s newest expansion area is enormous and breathtaking to say the least. I was amazed by the amount of extra slope/glade space that Vail was able to add. Hopefully I will have occasion to revisit the Blue Sky Basin during the peak season over the next few years. The skiing aspect of the trip was superb with a few minor exceptions that I won’t mention.
Another highlight or should I say, highlights of the trip was the several visits made to Ernst’s Swiss Hot Dog shop. Although we have mail ordered brats from Ernst in the past, and prepared sandwiches at home, the authentic sandwich prepared by Ernst in the confines of the “small shop” atmosphere are superior. His soup was also voted “Best of Vail” which is not nearly as prestigious of an award as it deserves. (I'm not sure that last part makes grammatical sense, but you know what I mean)
I’ll try to mention other aspects of the trip that were not quite as sensational including our trip to the Coors Brewery. Though, I would like to mention our visit to the University of Colorado at Boulder. All I’d really like to say is that it is an amazing campus with remarkable esthetics and that I’ll be making frequent trips, should my sister decide to attend. I was amused by the fact that the University had a large display in its student center commemorating national sexual assault awareness month. Anyone else demented enough to laugh about that? --- Of course I have pictures!
