I thought about watching the EAGLES pre-season game, and I did for about a 1/2 hour. However, since the first stringers were all done after about the first-quarter, I decided to switch over to the Dennis Leary roast on Comedy Central. I meant to watch the roast during its original airing last night (8/10/2003), but I forgot it was on, and went to the movies to see Pirates of the Caribbean for the second time. Luckily, Comedy Central is notorious for re-airing their specials about 10,000 times after the fact. It is sort of the same thing that MTV does whenever they give out those painfully misappropriated movie awards...
...Anyway, back to Leary. Ironically Leary was the gateway drug that resulted in my current obsession with stand-up comedy. Leary's ill-tempered delivery, irreverant topics and irish roots served to make him somewhat of a comedic role-model for me. No Cure For Cancer and Lock 'N Load are still among some of the best comedy albums available to date. The list of comedians on my favorites list has grown over the years to include a variety of talents, however, Lock 'N Load was still the first album that I could recite verbatim including accurate intonation. Rather than continuing to talk about Leary, I thought I would shift my focus and tell yall about some of the acts I am going to see...
AUGUST 16th - Not exactly a comedic act, but good nonetheless, I am going to see John Mayer and Counting Crows at the Tweeter Center this Saturday August 16th. This will be the 3rd time I've seen the Crows who remain one of my favorite bands of all time. John Mayer is talented I suppose, but I am not a HUGE fan... I'll be heading to this show with Chaz, Melissa, and some friend Mel is bringing from home. Should prove to be alot of fun.
OCTOBER 17th - Comedy Central is running their own comedy tour called Comedy Central Live! The tour features the comedic talents of Dave Attell, the host of Comedy Central's Insomniac show, and Lewis Black who aside from his incredible volumes of political humor, appears weekly on The Daily Show w/ Jon Stewart. The show is at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby. I currently have 3 balcony seats 2 of which are available on a first come first serve basis to all interested parties. Drop me an e-mail about this one.
NOVEMBER 6th - Eddie Izzard has a new show entitled SEXIE which he is bringing to Philadelphia's Merriam Theater. I was able to score two pit seats to his show. Raja has claimed the other ticket, and we are both psyched to see this staple of British comedy.
... That’s about all I have for now... but keep your eyes peeled for future updates. LEAVE SOME COMMENTS PLEASE!!! -- THANKS TARRAH!
